Building a future of positive experiences for children and young people.

Positive experiences of physical activity and movement make us more likely to be and stay active throughout our lives.

The most important indicator of lower levels of physical activity is when a person has two or more characteristics associated with being less active. For children and young people, these are girls, low affluence, being disabled or having a long-term health condition, or being Asian or Black. This accounts for 19% of children and young people in England.

Building positive experiences is the fire starter for impact. We need to work across the boundaries of traditional sport, health and public sector settings to change the way children and young people experience movement and physical activity. This isn't about changing the PE curriculum. This isn't about more kids on the football team. And this isn't about clocking minutes of movement each day. We need to build, test and share best practices to inspire change across the whole system.
